I was challenged recently to identify, if there was one thing I would ask prayer for, what would it be?
Out of all the multiple areas we are involved in at SSW, the word resilience came to mind. We have so much going on, even in this ‘quieter’ Summer term, that it can be easy to forget that we are all human, have our own needs and struggles in the background, and sometimes we need to recognise that we must not try to do all of these things in our own strength. He gives us an amazing ability to keep going, but we mustn’t assume it’s a never-ending supply. I am always so grateful to our dedicated workers, both our paid staff and our wonderful volunteers, and I would ask you to pray for them all as they continue to respond to God’s call to witness in our local schools. Pray that they may find the strength to communicate the truth of the Gospel, and to provide these children with an opportunity to find that truth for themselves.
Our primary assemblies continue to be ever popular, and much in demand (9 this week alone), and, as I mentioned in the last prayer update, we’ve got lots of Transit sessions coming up. Please pray that we might find a way to use these workshops to touch the heart of a child in such a way that they are encouraged to seek God. And our secondary Christian unions seem to have had a breath of new life. I asked you to pray for Carshalton Girls last month, and God has delivered! A new group has started and they seem genuinely excited to be meeting together. Greenshaw started a brand new group and wonderfully it has burst into life with a large number of 6th formers attending. Harris group, operating more like an open youth club than any of the others, provides opportunities to build relationships in a very different format. Overton Grange has opened up to all years instead of just one, and we are seeing new people come along. Sutton Grammar remains strong in number, and deeply rooted in faith. Wilsons, Wallington Girls and Nonsuch groups continue to meet and we offer them support where we can.
Kintsugi Hope has become a firm feature at Greenshaw, and we are so thankful to God for the way He has enabled this to blossom. What started out as very much an experiment for the school (and us), has become a thoroughly respected and successful part of the life of the school, and the staff member responsible has been delighted with the response of the children who have attended.
I have several bookings at churches to come and speak at a service, or simply to meet with the minister to discuss how we can help each other in our respective missions, and I genuinely feel incredibly positive about God’s plans for SSW. He continues to provide for us in terms of health, finances and support from our friends around the borough. Thank you to all who pray, give, and volunteer. We genuinely believe we are making an impact for our Lord across the schools of Sutton, and it remains our prayer that children will find the truth of Jesus through our work. Bless you for your support, Simon
