UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
News from St Andrew’s
Craig’s letter of 12 November
Revd Craig Bowman
I promised last week that I would share details of our planned Christmas services in this letter.
The first thing to say is that restrictions around meeting and gathering may affect what we are able to do and if we are unable to meet in church we will continue to provide audio services, with the possibility of some video services for those who have the means to access them.
Advent starts on 29th November and we are hoping that, following the lockdown, we shall be able to gather at 10.30am on 6th December and on 13th December to mark the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of Advent. At 6.30pm on the 13th we intend to hold our Carol Praise service. An audio version of this service will be available later.
Then on the 20th December it will be our all-age Christmas Tree Service.
Christmas Eve will see our Christingle Service. Because of Covid 19 restrictions we will not be able to accommodate everyone in one service so we intend holding two services; one at 4pm and the other at 6.30pm. We shall then hold a Welcome to Christmas Service at 11.30pm.
Please note that because of restricted numbers it will be necessary to book in advance for the Carol Praise and Christingle Services.
On Christmas Day our service in the church will be at 10.30am. Again an audio version will be available for those who cannot meet together in the church building.
This Advent and Christmas will be unlike those to which we have got used in recent years but I hope they will be poignant and important. With a reduction in the many activities with which we usually fill December we may have more space to reflect on the coming of God to us in the gift of his son. With the constraints around what we can do corporately in church and as family and friends over Christmas we may recognise what is truly important and find ways to celebrate this rather than following the agenda of a commercial world.
This Sunday’s service will again be available at 10.30am by calling 020 3870 2810 or through the church website.
In these Autumnal days may you know the presence of the God of change and renewal.
