SSW: April prayer update

Sutton Schoolswork
Prayer Update April 2019

     Director’s Note
I took some time this morning, after our first performance of Easter Experience at North Cheam Baptist Church, to reflect on March as a whole, seeing where God has been involved in what we have tried to do in His name. Once again, I am almost brought to tears when I see His hand, when I am reminded of His goodness, when I realise, for what seems like the millionth time, that He is gracious and loving, always enabling us to do more than we think we can do ourselves, through His power that is at work among us.
March has been incredibly busy, and I’ll simply list a few things to indicate the breadth of what we’ve done, so that you may be able to pause and thank Him again for His provision.

Easter Experience, which I personally think is one to the most powerful things we do, has been thoroughly well received once more. Around 2000 children see this performance, and each contact is an individual opportunity for a person to consider the truth of the story, and seek to apply it to their own life. We know that these children may never hear the Good News of the cross in any other format, so every cast member tells the story exactly as it is for them; true and personal. Please pray that each child (and adult teacher) takes away something of this truth.

We have seen the launch of 3 new Christian Unions in Secondary Schools, which is so exciting. God has raised Christian teachers in all 3 who have agreed to assist, so please pray that these fledgling groups will blossom and bless each school.

The inaugural Big Quiz Night saw St Patrick’s claim the title, and we look forward to challenging them for it next year! The evening saw over 200 people attend 4 venues to wrestle over some of the most challenging questions such as ‘Which country do you need to start digging in to come out in China, having passed through the centre of the Earth?’. (The answer is either Argentina or Chile.) The event saw over £600 raised for Sutton Schools Work and £400 for the personal charities of the venue churches.

We would now ask for prayer for our newest venture – parents prayer groups. Originally we sought to create WhatsApp groups for each school, but it appears that this causes some genuine complications over safeguarding and data protection which preventing people from signing up. Therefore, we are trying to launch these groups in the most appropriate and correct way possible. Please pray that we might find the right path for these, the devil would want to stop these, so will use some interesting logistical tricks to do so. We would want to see every school supported by a powerful group of praying saints, and we hope to establish this very soon.

Once again, thank all of you for praying. Every petition is a powerful weapon in His hands, so the more people on their knees, the higher His name is raised!
Blessings to you all this Easter…
Simon Ellingham

Primary Prayer Requests
  1. Easter Experience: Thank God for Easter Experience, it went really well & there was no snow to cancel it this year!
  2. Volunteers: Pray for young volunteers to come forward to help with the Transit workshops in July
  3. Easter Holidays: Pray for a good rest over the Easter holidays and productive preparation for next term.

Secondary Prayer Requests
  1. Overton Grange CU: Please pray for Overton Grange Christian Union. We launched the CU in March and it’s gone really well so far, with a few non-Christian students attending, so prayers that God will use the CU in some wonderful ways!
  1. Carshalton High CU: We’re also going to be launching a new CU at Carshalton High at the end of April, this time it’s going to be an after school club so prayers that we’ll have good attendance and it will go well!
  1. Cheam High: We have recently been doing quite a bit of work in Cheam High with lessons and assemblies. Please pray that through the relationships we’re making, we will be able to set up a Christian Union and encourage more work within the School.
