Wow, November over already! Let’s take another look back, thank God for what He’s done, and then look forward, and pray for what’s He’s going to do…. Sarah has been busy as usual, attending so many schools and sharing her faith with hundreds of children. She and her wonderful team of volunteers have delivered 39 assemblies across the borough, on occasions they have done 4 in one day. I continue to marvel at their persistent dedication, explaining carefully some of the wonderful stories from God’s word, and making them relevant to today.
In addition, she has led Iwonder spaces at 3 schools, 3 RE days, and in the last week of November she launches into Discover Christmas at 8 schools. Thank God for the opportunities he continues to open up, and that each time she and the team have gone in, there has been a chance for a spark to ignite. Please pray that each child will mull over what has been said. God has the power to bring things to mind much later on, and, just as Mary did, may they store up these things in their hearts for the seed of faith to germinate.
I’ve been working hard to keep our contact with Secondary Schools vibrant, and God has opened even more doors! Amazingly God drew a teacher at the new Harris School on the old Sutton Hospital site to contact our office from a search of the internet and ask if we could come in! Needless to say I grabbed the opportunity and this week I delivered a whole day of workshops to their Year 7s, the only group they currently have. Ii got a really positive response from the teacher afterwards with promise that they want us to come back. Praise God!
And I’m in the middle of delivering 12 workshops to Cheam High School on how to make healthy choices within relationships, and that’s being very well received. Sutton High have asked us to assist with a series of workshops on the historical evidence of Jesus, Overton Grange want us to cover relationships, Carshalton Girls want us to come in to discuss lesson delivery, Greenshaw have asked for assistance, shall I go on? In addition, we’ve been in touch with Sutton Grammar about re-starting their Christian Union, Wilson’s and Nonsuch to support their very vibrant ones, and contact has just been made with another 2 to see if we can start a new one.
I have been overjoyed with what God is doing and love coming in each day to see what new thing is going to happen. Please continue to pray, and pray specifically. I know many of you spend time each week asking our Father on our behalf and we are so grateful. Pray that we might find new and vibrant ways of spreading the flame of Jesus, so that faith may grow and flourish.
And I’ve saved the best until last. I’m delighted to announce that we have selected our latest team member. Her name is Kate Travers, and she will join us on 2nd January as our new Secondary Schools Worker. I am convinced she has been called to this role, and am so looking forward to her becoming part of this wonderful work. Hopefully, in the Christmas update, she’ll provide a bit more detail about herself, but, in the meantime, please pray for her. This is the most testing time for any servant of God, just after they’ve accepted the call, and the evil one will seek to disrupt. Offer her up for God’s protection, guidance and strength in these next few weeks, so that she may join us full of the love of God, ready to help us all tell His story.
1. Volunteers Please do continue to pray for volunteers, thanking God for the ones we have who are all amazing but also praying for more. We still need more volunteers for iwonder spaces & Easter Experience and we are also starting to look for young volunteers to help with our year 6 ‘Transit’ workshops next July.
2. Discover Christmas In December we will be half way through our Discover Christmas workshops please pray for continued energy while taking the workshops into schools & for lots of fun for all those involved, children, teachers & volunteers.
3. Christmas break
Please pray for a good time of rest over Christmas & productive organisation/preparation time for next term.
Secondary Prayer Requests
1. Appointed Secondary Worker Thank God that we have appointed a new secondary schools worker. Her name is Kate Travers and she will be starting on the 2nd January. More to follow in our Christmas newsletter…..
2. Sutton High Thank God for an emerging contact at Sutton High and pray that we will be able to witness during the Ethical issues in Christianity lessons.
As you decorate your Christmas tree this year and put up the lights would you pray that our young people and children would know Jesus as the light of the world, as you put up the chocolate decorations pray that our children and young people in Sutton would have many more opportunities to taste and see that the Lord is good by hearing about Jesus in lessons, assemblies and RE days.
