CSW: Philippines and poverty

Hi, Peter

Do you remember the story of why you first became inspired to tackle poverty?

I do. I was working in the Philippines with the local church and community to help build their future through an education programme and by providing employment opportunities. The work was making a real difference, but at the same time, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the need. It felt like we were sticking a plaster over the issue.

I began to think that if we want to see an end to extreme poverty we needed a fuller response, both meeting people's immediate needs and tackling the root causes. This was the beginning of my story of getting involved in speaking out and campaigning as an expression of my faith. I started to see that this was part of God’s call – to seek restored relationships with him, with one another and with creation.

We each have our own personal story of how we first started to respond to the challenges of global poverty and injustice. When these stories come together, we can make a new story, standing alongside people living in poverty, calling for change.

In the next couple of weeks, we are launching an exciting new initiative called Restoration Story, and we would love for you to join us in sharing your story about how your faith motivates you to get involved in tackling poverty. Look out for more details next time!

So what’s your story?

Every blessing,
