Craig’s letter of 30 July

Craig Bowman

Dear Friends

Sunday Worship

On Sunday 2nd August we will hold worship again in the church building. Last Sunday went smoothly and it is to be hoped that it continues in this way as we develop our safe practices and work out what is possible. At the moment we are only providing the same recorded service in church that is available online or via the dedicated phone number. The only difference being that in the church it is a video recording for the sermon not just audio.

As I said last week Louise, Thomas and I will be on holiday for two weeks from 1st August so the service on 2nd August will be led by Nigel Macdonald and on 9th August by Alan Cruchley from Wallington URC. I am grateful for their willingness to help in this way.

The service on 2nd August will include Holy Communion so please have bread and wine or juice available at home if you wish to share in this. Special hygienically prepared elements will be available for those sharing in worship at the church.

As usual the service on Sunday will be available from 10.30am by calling 020 3870 2810 or through the church website. We expect to continue providing the audio service for some time yet.

Disasters Emergency Committee

The DEC, which is a group of 14 UK aid charities including Christian Aid and Tearfund, has made an appeal for the support of people in refugee camps and in countries affected by war, including Yemen, Syria and South Sudan. Many of these people are living in conditions where social distancing is impossible and little help is available for those who fall sick. There is more information on the DEC website.

It has been our custom at St Andrew’s for many years to make a special offering whenever DEC declares an emergency and I invite you to do so on this occasion. If you have access to the church website you can donate there or you can send a cheque to the Church Office payable to St Andrews URC Charity with ‘DEC appeal’ written on the back.

I hope you all continue to keep safe and well and I look forward to sharing in worship with you again on Sunday 16th August.

With best wishes
